Collecting Memories! Written letters, early photos, vintage ads, collectible postcards, and antique paper goods ~ collecting and decorating with vintage finds add a bit of nostalgia and celebrates days gone by. Ephemera are the various paper items that weren’t written or produced to survive through the years. It is to the credit of those collecting memories that we can enjoy them today.
I recall many years ago my father gave me a box of letters written by family members throughout the first part of the 1900’s. Their expressions of daily life, how the depression affected them, being separated during World War II are touching and a reminder of my family history. I’m presuming that many of you have a similar collection of notes, letters, or postcards that you’ve saved because you, like me, collect memories.
Today, mingling ephemera with our antique or vintage home décor has become chic. And, there are many creative ways to display them when decorating. I’ve learned a lot about decorating with paper ephemera from Lisa Goad, the inspiration behind The Back Porch and Co. I often stand back and watch her in action and wonder about the depth of her creativity and vision…where does it end? I suppose of the ways to decorate with antique paper ephemera, my fav would be to bind some letters with twine and place these hand written memories under a cloche with a couple antique and time-worn clock faces along with a vintage open miniature bible or book of poems and an early photo. However, the possibilities go on and on.
I hope you will stop into the Back Porch and Company and be entertained by the creativity and pleased by the friendliness. You will always find fresh finds offered by The Blue Daisy and much much more.
Cheers!
